COUNT THE COST!

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?  29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.   31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?  32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. (Luke 14:28-32)
I remember the hymn …. Have you counted the cost…..
Many times we make decision without considering the magnitudes of those decisions, often times we lack foresight so we reach a conclusion from our mortal end.
The scripture above is a word from the lord Jesus saying would you not take a sit and count the cost? You are about to go into an illicit relationship, God is giving you a word of advice to sit down to count the cost. The popular adage says look before you leap. You want to choose to jettison your mentors and fathers advice, my dear sit down to count the cost.
Sometimes we go into some battles without counting the cost to see if it is a battle that we can win. You gang up against the lord, you choose to be rebellious, you opt out of God’s will for your life, I really hope you have counted the cost!
The prodigal son in the scripture is a good example of someone that did not count the cost of his actions. He went into a far country to squander his inheritance. Alas, he failed because he did no count his cost. He says to his father,(Luke 15: 12-14).
What this young man did was that he wished his father dead. Not many days, he wasted the riches with riotous living! Just within a short time, he was dead broke. Many actually resign from their job without counting the cost, they taught the new job is a better offer, but the new job is nothing but a trap. Have you counted the cost?
Esau is another man that did not know the weight of his actions. He gullibly handed over his birthright over a bowl of porridge. He wept eternally for that foolish decision. Many have sold their landed properties without counting the cost. Many lose connections without taking the cost into actions. Your actions and inactions are costly. Make sure you count the cost.
Selah!
From your brother,
Pastor Joel Orido
